How important is it to find your place in the world? Are we truly free or are we just eternal drifters in search of a home? Calling ourselves citizens of the world, uprooting our lives at the drop of a hat, feeling proud about not really belonging anywhere. Drawing extensively from my personal narrative—being born in USSR (Lithuania) to Ukrainian parents a couple of years prior to its’ dissolution and spending a life traversing various nations—I often am not sure which country or place to call “home”.
(Be)longing comes in the form of a photographic diary documenting contradicting emotions associated with the often-glamorised nomadic lifestyle. I have created a visual narrative through a blend of self-portraiture, landscape and street photography. I seek to convey a message of embracing one’s quest for identity with this project and the idea of finding peace and home within ourselves through the things we cherish and the meaningful connections we nurture along the way.
I intend to continue exploring the topic of identity and belonging, making this project the first chapter of a longer term project.
